Next Steps with God

Growing Spiritually

Spiritual growth begins with a decision – a commitment. If you want to get in shape physically, you start with a decision to begin eating better and working out. It’s the same way spiritually. You must decide in your heart and mind that you are going to do those things that result in spiritual growth. Growing spiritually requires work. So, few grow spiritually because they view it as something they passively receive. In fact, growth is something you must actively pursue. So it all begins with a commitment to grow. But what exactly should you commit to here at Hope?

  1. I regularly read my Bible and pray.
Like newborn babies hungry for milk, you should want the pure teaching that feeds your spirit. With it, you can grow up and be saved1 Peter 2:2 ERV
  2. I worship at Hope on the Sundays I am in town.
On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people...  Acts 20:7 NIV84
  3. I actively participate in a Hope Group.
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.  And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another…  Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT
  4. I serve in a ministry at Hope where I am needed and comfortable.
…He handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher to train Christians in skilled servant work, working within Christ’s body, the church.  Ephesians 4:11-13 MSG
  5. I give a regular offering in a God-honoring way at Hope.
On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income  1 Corinthians 16:2 NIV84
