Matt Sturdevant — Lead Pastor of Hope Church

Matt Sturdevant serves as Lead Pastor of Hope Church in Fort Worth, Texas, where he is passionate about helping people understand the Bible and build their lives according to God’s ways.
Matt came to Hope Church in 2002 and joined the church staff in 2006, serving in a variety of ministry and leadership roles. Before becoming Lead Pastor in the spring of 2020, he served as Hope Church’s Executive Pastor. Throughout his ministry, Matt’s teaching has emphasized biblical literacy and spiritual growth. He often describes the Bible as “life’s curriculum”—God’s instruction for shaping how we understand the world, what we value, and how we live.

That conviction also shapes Matt’s approach to pastoral ministry. He wants people not simply to know what the Bible says, but to put God’s ways into practice and increasingly become the Christ followers God intends them to be. At Hope Church, that means intentionally using every aspect of church life to help people develop perspectives, values, and behaviors that increasingly align with God’s ways.

Matt earned his bachelor’s degree from Biola University and his Master of Divinity from Northwest College and Seminary in Canada. He is currently pursuing a doctorate through Gateway Seminary.

Beyond Hope Church, Matt serves on the Executive Board of the Tarrant Baptist Association and in leadership with the 17:6 Network. He also serves as Texas Campus Director for The Antioch Project, the 17:6 Network’s ministry training program.

Matt is married to Jessica, and they have two children. He enjoys photography and action movies. Although he was born and raised in California, Matt likes to say that he got to Fort Worth as quickly as he could.
